Today, when you arrive at Manly Wharf, although the trams have long gone, you pass the stands for the bus routes that still feed the ferries from nearby suburbs. You will also find rock pools, which are ideal if you want to swim laps or have young children who are not confident swimmers. Eagle Head Rock to Curracurrong Falls – 26km, 1-2 days (the track is difficult in sections) Start early and equip yourself correctly if you want to complete it one day. Dee Why to Narrabeen. 6km. A quiet, north facing frontage captures ocean views, while the rear invites southerly breezes and effortless indoor to outdoor living. Forestville Park. From Manly to Sydney, catch the ferry from Manly Wharf to Circular Quay! Maybe don’t make that mistake! The Beaches Holiday Rentals Current Listings. Dee Why Headland. Time: 45 minutes One of the longest walks on this list at 10km, the Spit Bridge to Manly walk will take around 3hr 45 minutes. It took me 3 hours in total including a stop for lunch. The ferry from Circular Quay to Taronga Zoo Wharf takes only 15 minutes. Brookvale Heritage. This is the walk I happened to do the most! This easy 6.5km walk should take 2-3 hours. Just 3km return – there are two walking tracks to choose from, both relatively steep but they should only take around 30 minutes each way. Each of the beaches – Bondi, Tamarama, Bronte, Clovelly and Coogee – is worth a stop in its own right and gives an insight into Aussie city life for those of us from a colder climate. Grade: easy/moderate . The Bicentennial Coastal Walkway from Queenscliff to Palm Beach leads from North Curl Curl Beach in the south, along the cliffs of Dee Why Head and down to the southern end of Dee Why Beach. The easiest way to get to the beach is by car. Grade: Medium. Alternatively, it is 10km walk all the way to Watsons Bay lighthouse which I would recommend. If yours are still bolters or a bit wild, do not do this walk as it runs alongside cliffs. I did this walk while I lived in Rushcutters Bay, and while sections are stunning, others do take you done regular suburban streets (although it’s still all very pleasant). And of course finishing up at the falls themselves is a highlight. I packed some chicken and roast vegetable sandwiches, made up a thermos of tea and grabbed a few punnets of strawberries and stuffed then in a back pack. Both ends of the beach have their own surf life saving club, car park and café/kiosk. I wrote a huge list of day trips but they were all way too confusing or expensive to get to on public transport – with some exceptions. Manly Dam. The full trip from Sydney to Palm Beach will take around 2 hours if not longer. Although it’s close to the city, it’s not very well-known. Alternatively, walking onwards to Narrabeen (which is what I did) will end at another huge beach but was less scenic than the initial Curl Curl to Dee Why section. On the Eagle Head Rock walk, your first sight of interest will be Providential Point lookout, just a few hundred metres in, but the whole walk looks incredible. There is a direct bus from Dee Why to Sydney! You will have to change and get the 136 or 139 bus but where you change depends on the time you’re catching your bus, so check google maps for an exact route at the time you leave. Congwong Beach and the walking track on the Henry Head walk. Dee Why Heritage. If you’ve not spent long in Australia, the reddish cliff rocks juxtaposed against the deep blue sea will be particularly striking. The Rose Bay Hermitage Foreshore Walk still hits some up some of the best beach views and is only 1.8km long. This 8km walk will take 3-4 hours depending on stops. The beach has great facilities including toilets, showers, change rooms and bubblers, BBQs and a small playground at the northern end of the beach, approximately 200m from the Surf Club. Although I don’t advocate travel at this time, I hope my earnest posts on everything from solo backpacking to mental well-being on the road, will help prepare you for trips in the future. And with its pristine beaches, stunning cliff walks and abundance of sea and harbour views, Sydney hit the nail on the head!
